TRIPOLI, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Residents in Benghazi were fighting with rebels in the second largest city in Libya and have evicted them from "two-thirds" of the port city, Libyan state TV reported Saturday.
The report said local residents were "shaking the basis" of the rebels" and a national flag has been hoisted on the top of the building of a court in central Benghazi.
The report came after the rebels accused the Libyan government of bombarding Benghazi early Saturday with artillery and warplanes.
As journalists are not allowed by the Libyan authorities to get to the frontline for safety reasons, both Libyan state media`s reports and the rebels` accusations can not be immediately verified.
